This is a brief History of Hydroponics
Hydroponics is nothing new to this world.
History show that the ancient Egyptians were the first people to attempt to grow plants in a soil-less environment. Some believe that the hanging Gardens of Babylon used primitive hydroponics . The Roman Emperor Tiberius is believed to have used hydroponic to grow cucumbers out of season.
In the 17th century in Europe. A British naturalist by the name of John Woodward experimented with growing spearmint without soil. He discovered that the plants grow larger and stronger than those which grew through more traditional way. In the mid-nineteenth century hydroponics were further developed in Germany.
The United States didn't start using hydroponic techniques until the early part the twentieth century. Between 1925 and 1935, organizations made significant strides in the technology of hydroponics. It was during this time that a professor at the University of California Berkeley, William Frederick Gericke, gave the name "hydroponics." Gericke became famous for using hydroponic techniques to grow incredibly sized tomatoes in his backyard.
Our government used the hydroponic system to grow food for our soldiers during World War Two.
hydroponics today are used to produce larger, healthier, and better flavored foods. Also as a household hobby growing herbs, flowers, and vegetables in their basement or in a large closet.
People today can grow foods that wouldn't normally grow in their climate, or during the winter months.
Today hydroponics are a popular way of growing vegetables, flowers and cannabis indoors. Most states it is illegal to grow cannabis you would have to check with your state laws if you chose to grow cannabis.
My next post will be about setting up an affordable indoor hydroponics system.
